Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Hiv Infected Adolescent on Haart- Case Report

چکیده
Even though cardiac disease is not frequent in HIV infected children, it is associated with poor prognosis. Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most frequent heart disease associated with HIV infection. In HIV children the most frequent cardiac lesion is dysfunction and/or enlarged dimensions of the left ventricle. The pathogenesis is complex, the most important factor is HIV itself. Human immunodeficiency virus can affect the heart directly or by secondary chronic inflammation and immune activation. We present a case of an HIV-infected teenager diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and the evolution of heart disease during antiretroviral therapy.

Comparison between Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide in Children with Dilated Cardiomyopathy
Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is revealed with the left ventricular dilatation and systolic dysfunction. This study was performed to determine the level of Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) and Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) in children with dilated cardiomyopathy and controls and comparison of these two biomarkers in patients. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was...
متن کاملImpact of vitamin supplements on HAART related hematological abnormalities in HIV-infected patients
Background: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is one of the most life- threatening human infections. The advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has dramatically changed the course of HIV infection and patients' quality of life. In addition to the benefits, HAART can have numerous side effects and toxicities. Therefore, we aimed to assess the impact of short-term vitamins tr...
متن کاملMetabolic Abnormalities in HIV-Positive Patients Receiving Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy
Background and Objective: Dyslipidemia has become a common problem in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease, especially in patients on combination antiretroviral therapy. In this study we aimed to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia and metabolic abnormalities in 2 groups of HIV infected patients receiving highly activ...
متن کاملImmune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS) in a Child with Disseminated Tuberculosis
IRIS is a paradoxical reaction occurring in HIV-infected patient after initiation of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Incidence is estimated 12 to 19% of child starting HAART. IRIS with tuberculosis in non-HIV patients has not been reported in the literature. We report the case of an HIV negative 8 years-old girl who did develop IRIS and dilated cardiomyopathy during her treatment ...
متن کاملResolution of dilated cardiomyopathy in an adolescent with change of a failing highly active antiretroviral drug therapy.
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular dysfunction is a recognized complication of HIV infection in children. Cardiac complications of HIV usually occur late in the course of the disease; they may be associated with drug therapy, and hence become more common as therapy and survival improve. Left ventricular (LV) dysfunction at baseline is a risk factor for death independent of the CD4 cell count, HIV viral ...
